Suffering its symptoms, we set off down the mighty Macleod Tr. enroute to a place that three months ago began vowing to offer a kicked-up, burger experience.

Tommy Burger, run by the people who brought Calgary the Metropolitan Grill, has a sleek, modern look with a battery of overhead LCD screens beaming in sports.

While there's a raft of starters and salads, burgers are king at Tommy, with the eponymous sandwich a do-it-yourselfer with ingredients like avocado, provolone, maple pepper bacon and blue cheese.

Of course, no self-respecting burger joint would be without milk shakes, and the Tommy bumbleberry ($5),
crowned with whipped cream, was delectably thick, so much so a chunk of fruit clogged my straw.

For those thirsting after something harder, there's an good selection whimsically-named martinis.

Tommy Burger throws an upscale patty party too good to miss.
