ATP showcases recent Canadian and international successes, while the ENBRIDGE playRites FESTIVAL nurtures, develops and produces original material. Through mentorship and sharing our resources, ATP strives to leave a legacy in the community. The company is committed to maintaining a balanced fiscal position and employing sound management practices.Founded in 1972, Alberta theatre Projects was then a much smaller operation that presented children's theatre. The mandate at the time was to present new Canadian plays emphasizing prairie concerns and bringing history alive for children. Through the years, ATP has broadened its audience and has introduced plays from the international repertoires while continuing to fulfill its mandate and dedication to Canadian playwriting. For the first thirteen years, ATP presented plays in the Canmore Opera House at Heritage Park. The Canmore Opera House was a very intimate space - a log cabin that was donated to Heritage Park by Eric Harvie, seated 198 people and has a very special atmosphere - plays seemed to emerge from the tiny stage. It did present some limitations though, because it was so small and there was no understage, wing space or fly space.
